Christos Barbas Modal Ensemble, is a group based in Barcelona, where Christos has resided since 2015. With a focus on traditional Greek & Middle-Eastern music as well as new modal compositions, they offer an exploration of the rich musical heritage of the Eastern Mediterranean. The quintet’s repertoire includes original compositions and careful interpretation of traditional music, highlighting the beauty and authenticity of those traditions. Traditional Greek music is a cultural treasure that draws on the multiple influences of the regions of the Aegean Sea, Thrace, Asia Minor and many others. The Ensemble captures the essence of this richness, from the energetic rhythms and vibrant melodies of the islands to the hypnotic sounds and peculiar scales of the north, transporting us through the diverse soundscapes.
