A Song for Sunrise, a Song for Sunset
Song and singing exists in nearly every known culture in our world. It is not only a musical art form, but also indeed a unique expression of being human that embodies basic concepts and notions about life, time, nature, society. Furthermore it can be a creative terrain where all these notions are re-defined and re-stated.
“East and West” are ever-present notions in the European and Mediterranean way of understanding culture. They encompass the search for meaning into concepts as identity, cultural expression, diversity & difference.
This workshop will focus on the collaborative creation of a “song”, a choral work for voices & instruments, where various & different technics from “east & west” musical idioms will be used, to merge, to bring “home” this amazing diversity into a continuous flow of music, using exercises of improvisation, composition, listening and memorizing, breathing, sound production, movement and many more.
All people interested should bring at least their voice to the workshop, as well as a musical instrument – in case they play one – as through singing and playing we will have a chance to dive into the worlds of modal, classical, spiritual and folk musical traditions.
The workshop will be intensive and is directed to amateur & professional musicians, who would like to extend their knowledge on different music worlds, as well as non-musicians that sing or would like to sing, and also other artists / actors / dancers that would like to practice in the use of the voice as a creative tool!
